I have been practicing science based clinical nutrition in New York City for over 25 years and I have worked to make weight loss an achievable goal for anyone who is ready to raise their level of health, energy and wellbeing.
My program is adapted from the ‘Living Light’ approach utilized at the Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center.
Briefly, you’ll eat 6 times a day, every 2 ½ to 3 hours. The active weight loss portion of the program uses five 100 calorie portion controlled meal replacements and one 500 calorie food based meal of 5-7 ounces of lean protein and 2 cups of non-starchy vegetables. The frequent meals help to stabilize your blood sugar and allows you to manage comfortably with a 1000 calorie day. I have used this program successfully with people who want to ‘lose the last 15’ as well as those who need to lose 150 pounds or more. It’s a great approach for those with Type 2 Diabetes and is especially beneficial for difficult weight losers including post-menopausal women who often have trouble losing weight even when eating a generally healthy diet.
The program utilizes high-quality, medically formulated meal replacements with good-for-you ingredients combined with Mediterranean style meals to help you lose weight quickly and then keep it off. It is not a diet, but a two-phased approach for weight loss and forever maintenance.
In the first phase, you will lose about 2-5 pounds per week for the first two weeks and then 1-2 pounds per week thereafter. This is much quicker than all of the other commercial weight loss programs on the market and the speed of weight loss will help you to stay motivated and reach your goals. Once you achieve your desired weight loss, you will transition into the Maintenance Plan, which will allow you to put your healthy habits to work to support lasting weight maintenance.
